Just found out another of my patents was granted October 13th, 2009. This one was pretty cool.
Patent 7603363 is for Systems and methods for controlling transaction participation for groups of steps in a workflow.
This was one for Integration Services. Basically, the idea is that there's some workflow and you'd like the changes to the data that happen in that workflow to all be committed or rolled back in one block. This design allowed users to define and control how transactions were committed and rolled back based upon the scope and execution of the containers within the workflow. So, it's a simple matter to build a transaction scope around some operations by placing all those operations within a container and then specifying the settings for the transaction on the container. Transactions aren't new in the database world, but this invention allows the user to easily, even graphically, control the scope of the transaction within the workflow.
Rock on!
