Recently, Lindsey's teacher has been showing R rated movies in the classroom. If we don't want her to participate in watching, we have to send a letter to the teacher exempting her from the class so that she can go to the library instead of watching it. Isn't there enough content out there, enough quality G rated material, enough traditional teaching resources to use instead of R rated movies? And since when are movies all that educational or since when do they reflect reality? Even the most powerful and moving historical or documentary movies I've seen are skewed and don't tell the whole story. Yet, this teacher is showing R rated movies to his class of Juniors.
What I find paradoxical or ironic about this whole thing is that Lindsey's teacher can show R rated movies with apparent impunity and making it necessary for Lindsey to leave the classroom (Her standards don't allow her to watch R rated movies), and possibly cause her to feel "uncomfortable". Yet, if a teacher wishes to have quiet time in her classroom for those who wish to pray or simply meditate, she could possibly loose her/his job. The logic being that there must be a "separation of church and state" (nowhere in the constitution) and that those with different religious persuasions than the majority of the classroom or simply do not believe in a God, might feel "uncomfortable".
The world is upside down!
Fortunately, Lindsey doesn't waver. In so many cases she has been an example to those around her by insisting on her standards, even when doing so may cause some commotion or embarrassment. I'm so proud of Lindsey for sticking to her beliefs in spite of pressures to do otherwise.
