Jenny's first backpacking trip

Jenny has been asking to go with Tyson and me on one of our backpackage trips. This was the first one and I anticipate, not the last. She took to it naturally and wanted to know why the one mile hike to Mirror lake was so short and could we do a two mile hike next time. We're doing the ultralight backpacking now, so there aren't a whole lot of comforts. Just the very basics, yet Jenny did well without complaint. In fact, she attacked the trail with gusto and no complaints. The "tent" in the background is my poncho made into a tarp. Jenny slept next to me and Tyson slept in his own one man tent called a roadster.
This picture was taken after we completed the hike and were returning home. It was a good experience for the first time. As we were driving to the trailhead, it looked as though it was going to rain. I was glad it didn't. In fact, the sky was clear and we had a great view of the stars.

In the morning we awoke to a foggy landscape and Jenny was a little sleepy.

And then she came to her crazy self and her personality started to "shine".

Later, we packed up to go and visited the lake below our camp site. Jenny was walking along the bank and asked me

"Daddy, do mosquitos lay their eggs in there?"

I said "Yes".

"Frogs?" she said.

"Sure" I said.

"But not Salmon." she said.

It was a short and fun trip. Just perfect for a first time backpacking trip. She only said she was bored once the whole time. I explained that if you're bored out here, it's because you're not looking around enough to see the beauty of nature and that she should be looking for bugs, birds and interesting trees. Right about that time Stellar Jays visited us and started eating frosted flakes out of our hands. One landed right on her hand and ate out of it. She dug that!
