A visit to where nobody knew my name

While in Boston, I met a colleague from the area for dinner. I explained that the first order of business is to get a picture of myself in front of Cheers. He obliged. I explained that my kids would be disappointed if I didn't visit and give them proof that I'd made it. He was a little surprised and wondered how my kids even knew what Cheers was. I told him that we don't have a cable or satellite connection and only watch DVDs and that Cheers was one of their favorite shows.
He asked, how do you get away without having TV. Now it was my turn to be surprised. "Get away without having TV?" We haven't had TV for years and don't even miss it. I like having control over the media that enters my home. Frankly, watching TV for us now is an exercise in tedious and frustrating boredom. I would more accurately call it watching commercials.
The conference I'm attending is a real snoozer. However, it's valuable because I've been able to make connections with some key individuals in the industry that should pay off down the road.
I miss home and family and always feel like I'm missing something in the evenings when I don't get a good night hug or "good night daddy" from the kids. I'm looking forward to going home tomorrow.
